AN UNSUSPECTING delivery driver had his van broken into during the middle of rush hour traffic.

At approximately 7.30am on Wednesday, April 18, a van was stuck in stationary traffic on the A34, near to Chelford crossroads, when a black Renault Megane stopped behind it.

Two men got out of the car and used cable cutters to cut the locks at the rear of the van. They proceeded to enter the vehicle and unload several black parcels which contained cigarettes.

The men then sped off from the scene in the direction of Congleton.

DS Angela Coppock said: “This incident took place at rush hour on one of the busiest roads in the area and there could be hundreds of potential witnesses who could assist our investigation.

“I’m particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who thinks they may have seen the Megane fleeing the area. I’d also like to speak to anyone who was driving on the A34 near Congleton between 7am and 8am and has a dashcam fitted to their vehicle.”

Police are urging witnesses to come forward with any information that could assist with the investigation.

This can be done by contacting Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 39259. Information can also be passed anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555111.
