KNUTSFORD Town Council is to be asked to buy instruments for a proposed new marching band for the town.

The instruments would be used by members of the 2056 (Knutsford) Air Cadets Squadron, which wants to create a marching band.

Cllr Peter Coan told fellow Events Committee members: “Knutsford has been crying out for a marching band to perform at all the civic occasions for many years.

“It’s something I massively support - the benefits to the youth of Knutsford seeing this band walking round and thinking - actually I’m interested in being a musician.

“It would be great for the organisation and it would be great for the youth.

“Every single one of them are keen musicians – it would an absolutely wonderful thing for the town.”

The plan is for the town council to buy the instruments and loan them permanently to the Air Cadets.

Cllr Hayley Wells-Bradshaw said: “I fully support this, with the caveat that as a Knutsford marching band that’s had support from the town council we have always got first call on their services.”

The 2056 (Knutsford) Air Cadets Squadron applied for a grant from the town council towards the cost of buying instruments to establish a marching band.

The amount requested, £4,900, was greater than the Finance Committee’s Small Grants scheme.

The town council had wanted to have a Knutsford marching band for some time to use for Civic Sunday and Remembrance Sunday.

The Finance Committee agreed to refer the funding of the

band to the Events and Town Centre Management Committee.

However the committee budget does not have any uncommitted provision and the committee is not in a position to be able to consider the funding of the band.

The Events Committee agreed to refer the funding request for the instruments to the full council.
