YOUNG people from Knutsford and Holmes Chapel were among those who received awards to mark their support for the annual Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire Young People's Poppy Award presentation ceremony took place at Wilmslow High School.

The event was attended by almost 300 people, including Army, Air, Fire and Sea Cadets, along with Scouts, Guides and college students, parents and grandparents.

Certificates and trophies were presented by David Briggs, the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire.

Khumi Burton, county Poppy Appeal organiser for Cheshire East, thanked Wilmslow High School headteacher James Pulle for allowing the event to be held at the school.

She also thanked Paul McNamus and his team, Waters, Jones Homes, Cheshire East Council and Waitrose.

The event was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Cheshire East, Lord Grey, president of British Legion Cheshire County, Susan Sellars, vice- President, Chris King, County chairman, and sponsors.
