THE new police Chief Inspector covering Knutsford has hit the ground running in her new role, forging neighbourhood partnerships and seeing first-hand the ‘committed’ work of officers.

Laura Marler, who transfers from her previous role as chief inspector overseeing neighbourhood policing at GMP, officially taking the reins at Macclesfield Local Policing Unit (LPU) last week after Rob Dickinson’s departure.

With 19 years’ service, Ch Insp Marler says her most rewarding roles have come in neighbourhood policing, leading her to a new challenge with Cheshire Police.

She said: “I wanted a new challenge and to push myself further by working in a new force, new people, new area and forming new partnerships.

“My background in GMP was varied in that I have spent time on the frontline in uniform roles, but also in the detective roles as a Detective Constable, Sergeant and Inspector.

“I worked in volume crime teams focusing on burglary, robbery and assault crime, but in the last seven years I have very much been a part of neighbourhood policing teams and working in partnership with our internal and external partners.

“My passion and most enjoyable roles has been in neighbourhood policing as both Inspector and the last three years as a Chief Inspector overseeing neighbourhood policing.

“Macclesfield LPU will have all the challenges I am looking for, I am sure.

“In my first week I have been impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment shown by my new team of officers, PCSOs and support staff and will be ensuring this is demonstrated in the community and towards those people we are here for.”

Ch Insp Marler will be based at Macclesfield Police Station.
