KNUTSFORD and District Lions braved the weekend’s inclement weather to collect money as part of their Christmas Appeal.
Members of the club, along with Knutsford Hosts and Lions Friends, battled snow and ice on Friday and Saturday, December 8 and 9 and were rewarded with generous donations.
In total, £1,400 was raised by Knutsfordians and visitors, plus an additional £443 via envelopes.
The money will help the Lions put on their annual Christmas Day meal for those who might otherwise be on their own.
Peter Willgoose, who organised the collection, said “We are delighted by the street collection result, which is up by more than £100 on last year. The monies will enable the Lions to provide a Christmas Day lunch for those who would otherwise be alone, and stage the Senior Citizens’ Variety Show at Knutsford Methodist Church for 200-plus people on February 3. All surplus monies will be used to help local people in need throughout the year.”
Donations in Lions Christmas Appeal envelopes can be handed in to members or Knutsford Heritage Centre. Alternatively, call Peter on 01565 631255
Peter said: “Very many thanks to all those who gave so generously to make the collection such a success.
“The Lions also wish to thank the many Knutsford Hosts and Lions Friends who stood out in the cold for the Street Collection, and also those who helped deliver the envelopes.
“It would be very difficult indeed to run the Christmas Appeal without them”
