NORTHWICH fell silent on Remembrance Sunday as the nation reflected on those who have given their lives in conflict for the country.

A parade marched along Chester Way yesterday morning before making their way to St Helen Witton Church for the Service of Remembrance.

After the service guests made their way to the War Memorial for the Act of Remembrance where dignitaries, regiments and various organisations laid their wreaths.

Then at 11am, those who attended joined the rest of the nation as they fell silent for two minutes to reflect the sacrifices made by those who fought to protect our future.

The annual event was organised by Northwich Town Council.

Cllr Janet Myerscough-Illidge, mayor of Northwich, said: “It was a sombre experience reflecting the lives gave in all the wars so that we might have peace in our lifetime.

“It was a very touching ceremony. I was very pleased there were so many people who attended.

“The church was full and back at the cenotaph there were a lot of people there. It was very good to see a lot of people pay their respects.

“There were Brownies right through to adults. There were school children as well who put a wreath from their school.

“It was a very, very touching day for me. I was very proud and it was an honour to be able to represent the people of Northwich.”
