KNUTSFORD is set to witness the welcome return of comedy and music to the town’s iconic Brook Street Club on September 30.

After an 18 month absence original promoters Kevin Jardine and Paul Langley are again joining forces to bring live entertainment to the venue.

The new season includes the return of the LOLCheshire comedy night on Saturday, September 30.

Paul, the driving force behind LOLCheshire, said: “We have moved LOL around several venues with success but we are now back in our spiritual home.

"It’s a great comedy venue and we have some brilliant established and emerging comedians, from headliners at Edinburgh Fringe to those just starting out and looking for somewhere to develop their acts.”

The club first hosted live music six years ago and is re-launching with an act that went down so well at the first event all those years ago.

Kevin explains: “We really have stepped up a gear this time round with bands like the legendary Irish folk duo Tir na nOg and Icicle Works frontman Ian McNabb, but we knew straight away that we had to bring back Martin Stephenson as it has been three years since he last played here and everybody who had seen him kept begging us to get him back.”

Part of the community for more than a century, the club provides a platform for local talent and has again teamed up with Tatton Brewery.

Club chairman Steve Power said: “It is great that we have such recognised artists and comedians coming to the club but we also provide a space for local talent to practice and to play in front of a supportive crowd.

“We want to be seen as an important part of the local community and for people to support and enjoy events like the ones we have lined up and visit the club more regularly.”

Mr Jardine stressed the importance of helping develop and bring on the local music acts.

He explains: “Although we have focussed on bringing in recognised touring artistes, we will continue to support and promote local talent through various events.

“Big Jam, which went down so well at the Knutsford Festival, brings together local musicians of all ages and styles and we will continue to push local acts for all our support slots. We just love live entertainment and we can make it happen right on our doorstep if everyone supports it.”

The fun starts on Saturday, September 30, with LOLCheshire comedy night headlined by Steve Harris (C4/Fringe/Comedy Store),followed on Sunday October 1, by the Big Jam (free entry and everyone welcome).
