THOUSANDS of residents across Northwich, Middlewich and Knutsford were left without water supplies after a large water burst close at the Davenham roundabout on the A556.

Residents were left without supplies which was reported by Cheshire Police shortly before 1am this morning on Twitter saying: "There is currently flooding due to a burst water main on the A556 between Davenham and Rudheath in Northwich, please take care.”

United Utilities updated the situation at 7am today, September 1, saying: “Repairs are still being carried out to the main on the A556 and we will continue with the work until your supplies are restored.

“Our 'Water on Wheels' tankers are on site supporting and pumping water into the mains.

“We are hoping that this will restore some supply to your properties however this may be at lower pressure.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Thank you for bearing with us.

A spokesman for United Utilities gave a further update the at 11.50am saying: "We will continue working on fixing the leak on the A556 and works will continue throughout the course of the day.

"Our 'Water on Wheels' tankers will remain in place until works are complete in order to try and restore water supplies to the area.

"We are very sorry about this disruption and we will get this sorted as quickly as we can."

Residents took to the Northwich Life Facebook page shortly before midnight to complain about losing water.

At 2am, Laura Claudya said: "A pipe broke on A556 between roundabout and speed camera, water all over the first lane on the road - way to Northwich from Winsford."

Alan Parry added: “This is the second time in my memory that the main pipe has burst on the A556.

"Perhaps United Utilities should be spending money on new pipe work, instead of a new headquarters at Great Sankey."

Some residents added that water pressure was returning from 7am this morning.

Susan Harrop said: "Mine seems at full pressure in Leftwich."
