MOTORISTS face an afternoon of disruption as the M6 northbound has been closed from junction 19 at Knutsford due to emergency roadworks on the Thelwall Viaduct.
At 1pm today, August 17, police were called out to multiple reports of an object in the northbound carriageway on the viaduct.
Officers attended the scene and found a number of grid plates had become loose and lifted out onto the road.
A full road closure is now in place on the northbound carriageway from junction 19, as highways engineers carry out emergency works.
The closure is expected to remain in place for several hours.
As a result of the incident there is severe traffic in the area.
As of 2.50pm, Traffic England said that queues were back to junction 17 for Sandbach, while there are also delays eastbound on the M56 between junction 11 for Runcorn and the Lymm interchange.
