A BUSY lay-by where Knutsford meets Mobberley is earmarked for parking restrictions.

The lay-by, in Knutsford Road between Longridge and Dukenfield Hall, will be subject to a two-hour maximum stay with no return within two hours under new Cheshire East Council highways proposals.

The order would be in place between 8am and 6pm Mondays to Fridays, with the stretch currently used for parking and lined on both sides during weekday office hours.

Cheshire East Council said: “Concern was raised by the local ward member with regards to long stay parking in the lay-by nearest to Dukenfield Hall in Mobberley, Knutsford.

“It is believed that long-stay parking associated with the Hall causes issues with regards to the operation of a licensed hot food van in terms of access to operate the business and the availability in parking for customers, as well as goods vehicle drivers using the lay-by for legal rest breaks.

“An informal consultation has been undertaken with Dukenfield Hall who are the only affected property by the proposed measures and as such CEC highways has received no responses to this exercise.

“The proposals were supported by the local ward member for Mobberley at the meeting of the Knutsford Area Highways Group in March.”

The council says restrictions will help ‘secure the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of traffic’.

At the turn of the year, double yellow lines were installed on surrounding roads such as Rookswood Way, leading to an influx of cars parking in the lay-by and preventing HGV drivers from pulling in for legally-required breaks.

Residents can object to the proposal before August 17, either in writing to Mr R Welch, CEC Highways, Floor 6, Delamere House, Delamere Street, Crewe CW1 2LL, or email consultations@cheshireeasthighways.org.
