THE A556 is closed in both directions between the A50 crossroads in Mere and the Bowdon roundabout following a road traffic collision this afternoon.
Cheshire Police told the Guardian that three vehicles were involved in a crash on the A556, causing a full closure of the road in both directions.
Fire crews released a female casualty from one of the vehicles involved, where she had been trapped, before she was handed to the care of paramedics.
Two ambulances and two rapid response vehicles were sent out to the incident at 2.42pm.
One patient was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital, while four patients were treated on the scene as walking wounded.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is advising motorists to avoid the area.
The A556 was initially closed from The Swan pub in Bucklow Hill to the Bowdon roundabout, before police extended the road closure.
