ROSE Queens past and present have opened a new nurture and nature garden for the children at Mobberley Pre-School.

Amelia Thomas-Wade, the current Mobberley Rose Queen, and Betty Blease, who held the title in 1935, performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of parents, children and committee members of the nursery at the Victory Hall in Town Lane.

The pre-school, which is a registered charity, benefitted from the help of volunteers from Carillion Plc, which also sourced materials for the garden from local suppliers.

Sharon Pennington, setting manager at Mobberley Pre-School, said: “They have successfully transformed the tired-looking area at the rear of Victory Hall into a beautiful secure garden for all the children to benefit from.

“The generosity of donations and hard work from everyone means the pre-school can provide a natural environment where all children can play, learn, dream and grow.”

The pre-school thanked businesses and individuals who contributed to the project through a Give and Gain Day, which invites volunteers to help and revamp charitable organisations in small communities.

Those who took part were Ray Brocklehurst, Dave Pennington, Carillion Plc Opx team, Matt Strong from Anagrade Electrical, Brewer’s paint outlet in Stoke, Sean Gallagher at GPL Group, Burdens Manchester, Mike Maloney, Thomas Griffiths and Sons, Simon Newing and Simon and Jayne Hirst.
