NO Warrington councillors have had council tax arrears or failed to pay the amount owed on time in the past four years, it has been confirmed.
On Monday, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, Jonathan Isaby, reminded the authority it has a 'responsibility' to remain transparent after a Freedom of Information (FOI) request from the Warrington Guardian was rejected.
It asked the council to reveal which, if any, councillors have been issued with reminders or final notices for late council tax payment in the past four years.
It was also asked to disclose the names of any members who have been issued with a court summons for non-payments.
The request was refused on August 5 but council chief executive Steven Broomhead has today, Wednesday, responded to concerns and speculation.
He said: "I have reviewed the request made under FOI Act – the council wishes to operate in an open and transparent basis.
"I can clearly state that no councillor has had council tax arrears or has not paid on time."
