A NEW course for the latest sports craze, ‘footgolf’ has opened at a sports club in Cranage.

Woodside Golf Club, located in Knutsford Road between Cranage and Holmes Chapel, is the latest leisure complex to open a course.

The game is played with a size five football, and the nine-hole course takes an hour to complete.

Kathryn Scott, a director at Woodside Golf said: “In just two weeks, our Footgolf course has received some great feedback.

“It has already proved to be a fun and social activity for groups of friends, families and members here at the club.

“The game appeals to people of all ages and capabilities and is a great way to keep fit too.

“We had been thinking about doing it last year. We had a charity tournament for the captain’s charity, which initially gave us the idea, and on the back of that we decided to really go for it.

“It’s really taken off. The kids love it and the older ones love it too.”

Woodside Golf is a family-run golf club situated three miles from junction 18 of the M6.

In preparation for the new attraction, the nine-hole par three course has recently been renovated to include larger holes at the edge of the course’s greens, accommodating for both Footgolf and pitch and put.

As well as having a large 9-hole golf course there is a 30 bay driving range, restaurant and free car parking which is also open to the public. The new addition to the golf course’s facilities opened officially last Saturday and is due to have an official launch at the end of the month.

Players are advised to dress in a collared t-shirt or shirt with smart trousers or shorts.

Football boots are not allowed so suitable trainers should be worn.

Footballs will be available for hire from the venue charged at £1 per ball.

Woodside Golf hosts Footgolf every day of the week and is currently running an introductory offer of £5 per person.
