A KNUTSFORD Councillor has been promoting the Tour of Britain by taking part in a challenge from primary school students to learn to ride a penny farthing.

Cllr James Power who is the chairman of the Tour of Britain Sub Committee confessed to being “terrified of heights,” after he was set the challenge by pupils at Egerton, but was helped by cycle enthusiast Roger Turner.

Cllr Power said “the Tour of Britain is encouraging people to try something new and make full use and open spaces like The Heath, the Moor and Tatton Park. Knutsford Town Council has been working TEM Events and Event Buddha to create pop festival that is free to enter and it is going to really showcase what Knutsford has to offer.”

To celebrate the momentous occasion for the town, a day will be dedicated to all things bikes. Cycle Fest will take place on the Heath on Tuesday, September 6.

Heather Clawson from TEM Events added: “The race will come through Knutsford twice and the Cycle Fest is a perfect way to promote community groups and businesses. We are very lucky to have such an iconic location to view the race.

“The Heath is going to come alive with a Makers Market including numerous independent cycling retailers, a big screen showing the race live, a SilkFM Stage, a children’s village and a VIP area. We are also providing extra secure parking area for cyclists and at least 1500 car parking spaces for visitors to the town.”
