AROUND 300 Knutsford residents and guests attended a family fun event in Longridge at the weekend to raise money for the community.

The ‘Community Spirit’ event took place on the field in Longridge and was organised by the charity’s voluntary event co-ordinator Pat McAndrew.

Guests were invited to have a go on the ‘smoothie bike’ which makes smoothies as the user cycles and there were bungee chairs and a teacups and saucers ride as well as a raffle and a BBQ- which was provided by The Welcome Café in Longridge.

“We definitely made a few hundred pounds,” said Pat. “We had to raise money beforehand to put it on and we got sponsorship from Henry Brooks, David Briggs MBE, Cheshire East Council, Great Places Housing Group and Knutsford Lions as well as a generous donation of £500 from a resident.

“I was really happy with how it went on the day. The weather stayed nice, I even got sun burned. It wasn’t quite as busy this year but there was a lot going on in Cheshire like the RHS Flower Show and a big event at Jodrell Bank.

“It is my fourth year of doing it but it has been going for a really long time.”

The event took place from 12pm to 4pm, and Great Places Housing Group also showed up to show support.

All of the proceeds will go towards the community, either to purchase things that are needed for the estate or to go into next year’s family fun day.
