MORE than 1,000 spectators gathered to watch Knutsford Academy’s latest show-stopping production.

This year’s musical ‘We Will Rock You’ took place over five nights at the Bexton Road stage, where more than 100 students from Year 10 to upper sixth form took to the stage.

The show, based on Queen’s greatest hits, follows young revolutionists through a world without creativity, where rock music barely exists.

Emily Yarwood, who played leading role Scaramouche, said: “’We Will Rock You’ Will always have a special place in my heart.

“Having the opportunity to play one of my favourite characters surrounded by some of my best friends is something I will remember for a lifetime.

“As a cast we are forever grateful for the support we get year upon year from Miss Mayne and Mrs Scott and everyone who works tirelessly to ensure we enjoy ourselves during the week of the show.

“The productions and Knutsford Academy have pushed so many people to careers within the performing arts and I strive to be among that number. Scaramouche will forever have a place in my heart, as will the people I shared this journey with.”

The success of the latest production follows in a long line of highly acclaimed shows from the Academy that has seen a number of the students move on to star in West End productions and even Broadway.

“Every year, we spend hours deciding what production will best showcase the talents of the young people at Knutsford Academy," said Helen Mayne, head of Performing Arts.

“The productions we stage provide a valuable learning opportunity, enable students from across a range of years to work together as a company, and in some cases provide a springboard to the professional stage.

“This year Lisa Scott and I decided in addition to all of this, we wanted to have some fun and "We Will Rock You" is certainly that.

“We have had a fabulous week, at the end of a stimulating creative process and we are proud of the achievements of the entire company and enormously grateful to the "friends" of the department who have helped create the magic.”

Former Knutsford Academy performing arts students include Danielle Hope, who won Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Over the rainbow’ and has since been touring with ‘The sound of music’, as Maria Von Trapp.
