FOLLOWING the official opening less than three months ago, the Knutsford’s ‘The Rock Project’ is proving to be a hit with youngsters from across the region.

Led by US-born Scott Coker, The Rock Project teaches guitar, bass, drums and vocals to young people aged seven to 18 years old and offers the chance to play as part of a band.

The classes, which are held at Knutsford Methodist Church every Monday evening, are attended by children from the town and the surrounding area.

One of the students is 13-year-old Finlay Ross from Knutsford, who is learning to play the drums.

His mother Zoe explained: “Finlay started playing guitar in school and enjoys jazz music on the saxophone, but since joining the Rock Project has found a new interest in the drums.

“The Rock Project not only boosts confidence but allows him the chance to mix with children of different ages and schools.

“He enjoys all types of popular music and the great thing about The Rock Project is that he can perform the music he likes as part of the band.”

Alisha, 10, a pupil at Rainow Primary School, has also grown in musical confidence since joining The Rock Project.

“I really love the Rock Project because I get to learn music I enjoy and then play it in the band,” she said.

“I’m now learning the electric guitar and we have lots of fun choosing our music and then performing it together.”

Sessions include professional tuition on electric guitar, bass guitar, drums and vocals, before students perform together as a band.

There are two sessions, one for juniors aged seven to 11 and another for 12 to 18 year olds. Scott is offering a free taster session for those who get in touch with him directly.
