Comberbach WI by Rosie Rowe

The recent meeting of Comberbach WI was chaired by vice president, Margery Hall, who welcomed 45 members and three guests. The success of the special evening of entertainment in August, when professional performer Judith Hibbert delighted and enthralled 100 members and guests with her individual and highly amusing repertoire, was noted.

Forthcoming events include the Tasty Evening at the end of September, which is always a well attended and popular event and showcases the culinary skills of members. No one goes home hungry!

A proposed trip to William’s cheese shop and Sandbach market in October and a shopping trip to Boundary Mill, just in time for Christmas shopping were also discussed.

Members were reminded that committee members and this year, a new president, have to be elected in November. Everyone was asked to consider serving.

Guest speaker for the evening was Mike Cullerton, with a very entertaining and informative talk on 'A day in the life of a toastmaster'. His talk concentrated on weddings so members who are in the throws of arranging weddings themselves picked up many handy tips. They ranged from the correct way to wear a button hole, through to the correct length of speeches and things that the best man should not say.

The next meeting will be on Monday, October 5 at 7.30pm at Comberbach Memorial Hall with Ruth Moore Williams and her talk 'Grumpy Old Woman'.

Visitors and new members are always welcome.
