WILMSLOW'S Seren Bundy-Davies brought home the Great Britain and Ireland 4x400m relay team to a bronze medal in the IAAF World Championships in Beijing.

They finished behind Jamaica and USA in the Bird's Nest Stadium this afternoon, following qualifying second from their heat yesterday.

Former Wilmslow High School student Bundy-Davies, aged 20, anchored the team on both days, though British athletics star name Christina Ohuruogu replaced Kirsten McAslan in the line-up today and kicked things off with a second-place handover.

Anyika Onuora and Eilidh Child moved the race on for Bundy-Davies to take the baton in third and held on strongly to finish off the team's season's best 3:23.62 in her first senior world championships.

It keeps Bundy-Davies, the new girl in this world championships relay team, on track for an appearance in next year's Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.

She said on BBC TV, after also roaring the men's team home to bronze on the final day of action in China: "It was really nice to bring the team home like that.

"I had no idea what was going on behind me so I just wanted to hold it together after they (her teammates) had done all the hard work.

"It's really surreal because I watched them two years ago win a medal and just so happy to be here now, running with these girls and winning a medal so I couldn't ask for more"
