FRIENDS and members of Toft Cricket Club donned their best frocks to take part in the annual Ascot-style Ladies’ Day at the club last week.

The event, which took place on, Thursday June 18, marked five years since organiser; Shirley Ryan first launched it in 2010 with her friend Pam Reed.

This year saw a similar format to previous events, as the attendees enjoyed a champagne lunch followed by betting on televised races.

Shirley said: “This year was absolutely fabulous and everyone had a wonderful time. We all dressed up and were surrounded by pretend horses – but they looked real.

“It was very well supported and there were some new faces, some who had come from far and wide. There were even people who had come with friends all the way from Bolton.

“Everybody looked really lovely, and everyone made a great effort.

“The newcomers were asking if they could come again next year, so they must have enjoyed it a lot.”
