THE Voice has exploded back on our screens but Clonter Opera has upped the stakes and is bringing the country’s rising stars to you live and in the flesh.

The Swettenham Heath theatre will be hosting unique singing competition, Opera Prize, on Saturday February 7.

Contestants, nominated by the UK’s conservatoires, will battle it out for a prize of £2,000 before a distinguished panel of judges and packed auditorium.

The audience will collectively act as one judge, deliberating their choice during the traditional 70 minute supper interval, at the end of which they will cast their vote.

Isabella Lockett, of Clonter Opera, said: “This event is perfect for anyone who is either interested in spotting emerging talent, and enjoys following singers’ careers, or for an opera novice, who would like to dip their toe in the operatic water, getting a taster from a wide range of operas before committing to a whole one.

“Each item is introduced and set in context by the inimitable, concise and witty, compére.”

As well as the £2,000 prize money for the panel’s choice, the audience’s vote will also be revealed and will be accompanied by a bottle of champagne.

For the 70 minute supper interval, guests may bring their own picnic or pre-order supper in the Carmen Dining Room. Hampers and canapé baskets are also available to pre-order.

Doors will open at 6pm for a 7pm start. Ticket prices vary between £20 and £30, student tickets cost £10 and tickets for under 16s are priced at £8.
