THE legacy of the Egerton family will be celebrated through a special commemorative walk in Tatton Park next month – and Knutsfordians are being urged to get involved.
The Tatton Park Charitable Trust and The Egerton Schools’ Foundation will take part in ‘The Winter Walk’ on Saturday January 17 at 1.30pm.
The walk is to celebrate the legacy of the Egerton family and to support the work of the foundation to provide education for both Egerton schools in Knutsford and in Njoro, Kenya.
Maurice Egerton was the last Lord Egerton. A great adventurer, he developed a real passion for Kenya.
His family before him had already founded the Egerton school in Knutsford in 1893. It therefore seemed natural for Egerton to establish the school in Njoro himself to educate the children of his Kenyan Estate workers.
The benefit of Lord Egerton's investment and support of people in Njoro has been long lasting and is still seen today.
The Egerton Schools’ Foundation has been created to sustain the strong and established partnership between Egerton Primary School, Knutsford, and Egerton Primary School, Njoro.
The mission of the foundation is to promote an equitable, enriched and sustainable approach to the high quality global education of children in both schools.
The Tatton Park Charitable Trust works in partnership with the foundation to preserve and enhance this unique legacy of the Egerton family on the town of Knutsford. The money raised from 2km sponsored ‘Winter Walk’ will serve to sustain this work.
