ALL cups were raised to Goostrey’s Rose Queen last week as she handed over money raised through tea sales to a children and young people’s friendship charity.

All proceeds from the teas sold at this year’s Rose Day went to Friends for Leisure, a charity that provides friendship and activities for children and young people with a disability.

Rose Queen Catherine Flanders presented the £850 raised through the tea sales to Paul Walker, chair of trustees at Friends of Leisure at her Goostrey home on Tuesday November 18.

Gillan Jones, Friends for Leisure manager, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Rose Queen and the committee for their generous donation.

“The money will pay for a member of staff to lead one of our ten pin bowling groups for a whole year. Bowling is a firm favourite amongst our registered young people and volunteers.

“At the same time, parents are able to meet in the coffee shop, which addresses their own isolation and helps them to feel that they are not alone in having a disabled child.”

Christina Burgess, chair of Rose Day, thanked all of the volunteers who worked hard to produce the teas on Rose Day, in particular Isabella Smith and Natalie Gomes.

“I am delighted that we raised so much for such a worthy cause,” she added.
