NANNIES and granddads enjoyed some special bonding time with their loved ones at Bexton Primary School last month.
Grandparents Day, the highlight of the academic year at the Blackhill Lane school, took place on September 26.
The dedicated day has been a tradition at the school for more than 20 years and involves grandparents coming into the school to spend a day with their grandchild.
This year the school welcomed more than 1,000 visitors during the day and the children spent the morning showing their grandparents their classrooms, the school gardens, and the new chicken coop.
In the afternoon, the children performed songs from The Great War and tears were shed when the school choir performed their final song, ‘We will remember them’.
Headteacher Mr Dolan said: “It is my favourite day of the year. Thanks goes to the teachers and parents who helped to make it such a successful day.”
During the morning, parents group ‘Friends of Bexton’ also organised a Macmillan coffee morning, which raised £560 for the charity.
