KNUTSFORD residents are being urged to get along to Tabley House this weekend to enjoy the 2014 Races event.

The annual Knutsford Races point to point is to be held in the parkland setting of the Tabley estate on Sunday.

Gates open at 11am and race-goers will have plenty of time to explore the grounds and view the lake.

Food from Cheshire-based companies will be available while picnicking with family and friends is also a popular option before viewing the gifts and wares on sale or taking youngsters to enjoy the children’s funfair and amusements.

Dogs are welcome but they must be kept on a lead at all times once the racing starts.

This year the Knutsford Races is offering record prize money and the highest amount of any point to point held in the UK during the 2014 season.

The races start at 1pm with three pony races, with the seven steeplechase races beginning at 2pm.

Feature races include the Lord Daresbury trophy race, held over three miles and 18 fences with a prize fund of £1,500.

Tim Garton, spokesperson for Knutsford Races, told the Guardian: “Oliver Greenall, a Malpas-based point to point trainer and jockey, and son of Lord Daresbury will be looking to keep the silverware in the family.

“Another championship races is the Dodson & Horrell sponsored national novice rider final with £1,000 prize money with qualifying races having been held throughout the season.

“Famous racing families with an interest here include trainers Paul Nichols and Nicky Henderson whose daughters are amongst the winning qualifiers.”
