A 16-year-old aspiring politician is rallying support for his reinvigorated campaign against a proposed housing development in Holmes Chapel.

Last week, the Guardian reported that housing developer Russell Homes had resubmitted amended plans to build 100 properties at Saltersford Corner.

Following the resubmission, Bill Armstrong, a sixth form student at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School, has restarted his ‘Save Saltersford Corner’ in a second attempt to stop the plans from going ahead.

He said: “I set out to stand up for what I know the village wants and doesn’t want and this is an issue close to my heart. Teenagers often pretend that they are not bothered by change and development in their communities – they are but they are scared to do so.”

Bill is joined in his campaign by 16-year-old Abbie Little. Bill, Abbie and the rest of the campaign team have set up a public meeting to take place tomorrow night, March 26, at Victoria Club in Holmes Chapel.

The campaign team have organised the meeting, which will take place from 6-7pm, to discuss options on how best to proceed with the campaign.

Bill added: “The support that we have gained is overwhelming and this meeting is just another step in the fight against the developers.”
