HOLMES Chapel’s branch of the Cheshire Building Society is to close.

The unit, based in the Square, will close after its owners – Nationwide Building Society – decided it was no longer needed.

In May 2013, Nationwide set out the progress it had made to deliver its products and services to all customers of the Dunfermline, Cheshire and Derbyshire building societies under the Nationwide brand.

At that time, the society said the integration of each brand would be phased, with the Dunfermline taking place first, followed by Cheshire in Autumn 2014, and Derbyshire in Winter 2014. It is estimated that this process will complete by mid 2015.

The Cheshire branches that will close are Cheadle Hulme, Flint, Holmes Chapel, Lymm and Neston.

Tony Prestedge, chief operating officer, at Nationwide said: “We have made considerable improvements to our range of products and services, and are now in a position to ensure our members under the Cheshire brand can have full access to the benefits our other members already enjoy.

“It is a logical step to integrate our businesses under one unified, strong, and nationally recognisable brand.

“As well as benefiting from access to our full suite of products and market leading customer service, more people will have access to our strong branch network than at present.”

The nearest branch for villages will be Middlewich.

The Knutsford branch of Cheshire Building Society will rebrand as a Nationwide.
