KNUTSFORD Photographic Society began its new season with a talk by Margaret Sixsmith entitled ‘Pure Nature’, which was very well received.

The following week members engaged in a photographic workshop critiquing images taken by colleagues. Last week was the first competition of the new term. Tim Knowles won the digital image section with his stunning The Magnitude of Scale.

Carol Keith was in second place with a landscape entitled Daybreak at Alderley Edge and Mervyn Harrison was third with a pin-sharp macro image of Raindrops on Poppy.

Carol Keith was fourth with a mono image of a brook in the woods and Ray Brocklehurst was awarded fifth place for Are you sure it’s off, a humorous title to a great image of electrical workers on top of an electricity pylon.

John Patterson had a very successful evening in the print competition, being awarded first place for Flower Meadow, a beautiful image of a wild flower meadow and gaining third and fourth places for Shoreline and Thistle Heads. Gwndaf Roberts, a regular contributor of images to the Guardian, was second with Juvenile Rook and Terry Heath fifth with Chameleon takes Grasshopper.

The independent judge, Bob Dennis, from Bebington Camera Photographic Society, commented on the very high standard of images submitted in the competition. For further details see knutsfordps.org.
