Trio celebrate their towering achievement for British Red Cross
CHRIS Froome may have brought home the yellow jersey and won the 100th edition of the Tour De France, but Knutsford has its own ‘winning’ team.
Ian Jones, Dave Rees and Andy Lynes all donned red and undertook a gruelling 300-mile cycle ride from London to Paris in aid of the British Red Cross.
The Knutsford trio spent months training for the challenge of a lifetime this summer, cycling from London to Paris in just four days.
They triumphantly completed the challenge, pedalling up the majestic Champs Elysees to the finish line at the Eiffel Tower, in time to see the final stage of the Tour De France the day after.
The team also raised more than £7,000 in support of the British Red Cross.
Ian Jones said: “The London to Paris Cycle Challenge was rewarding on so many levels.
“For the past three months we’ve been making the most of the fantastic summer and pounding the lanes of Cheshire, which meant we were all able to enjoy the physical challenge of the ride.
“We’ve also risen to the challenge of raising money for a fantastic charity like the British Red Cross.
“Family, friends and the people of Knutsford have been fantastic in their support of all the fundraising activities we’ve put on over the past few months, and we’ve raised more than £7,000. So a huge thank you to everyone in Knutsford.”
Jo Dootson, British Red Cross senior community fundraiser, said: “Ian, Dave and Andy have been absolutely incredible, and have raised such a fantastic amount of money for the British Red Cross, which will make a real difference to our local and international work.
“I am so pleased the guys enjoyed the challenge and had so much fun raising the money in the lead-up too.”
