POLICE have told residents to let them know about off-road motorbikes riding on land opposite a Knutsford pub.

The issue of motorbikes riding on private land opposite the Falcon Bearer pub in Longridge has been a major concern for residents in the area in the past 12 months.

The bikes were out in force again on Sunday, and residents have told the Guardian the bikes are not only causing a noise disturbance but are also damaging the land.

An Over Ward resident, who did not wish to be named, told the Guardian the bikes were on the field for around two hours.

“As you know, everywhere is now tinder box dry, so the damage being caused to the land by these bikes amounts to clouds of dust,” he said.

“This will all change once the wet weather returns, and the place will once again resemble the Somme.

“I fear for myself, my dogs, and any children who may stray into the bikers’ paths and for the wildlife which will shortly be emerging once the rain comes and will end up as squashed carnage across this area.

“I’m not a killjoy as I used to ride bikes when I was younger, and it’s good fun.

“But I am getting pretty fed up with the total lack of any control over these bikers, who cause damage, fear and a terrible racket, especially on a Sunday afternoon.

“The police have been excellent in keeping me up to date with their progress, but I can only assume that on Sunday they were all at the Tabley Races.”

A spokesman for Knutsford Police said officers were aware of the issue.

“It’s something we always keep an eye on,” he said.

“We’ll respond to any calls we get if the bikes are a nuisance for residents and will patrol the area. If people have concerns feel free to report it to us on 101.”
