AN election to appoint a new town councillor will take place in February – and it is estimated to cost the town as much as £7,000.
Bernadette Emmett announced in November that she had resigned from Knutsford Town Council due to her work commitments.
She was elected in 2011, with the highest vote of the Over Ward councillors, and served on the finance, environment and operations committees. It was the first time she had stood as a councillor in the town.
Ten townsfolk had to contact the borough authority for an election to be held and this was done before the deadline of December 14.
Steve McQuade, town clerk, said: “I have confirmation that the election for the vacancy on the council will be held on February 7. The trigger of 10 electors asking for an election had been reached.
“Further information will come out of Cheshire East Council.”
He added that the cost to the town of the election is forecast to be between £6,000 and £7,000.
