Elite cyclist Hannah Walker gives Knutsfordians food for thought

ELITE young athlete cyclist Hannah Walker made a trip to Longridge to share her tips for making the right food choice with the Knutfoodies team.
Hannah is three times National Champion and winner of the Queen of the Mountains Jersey, Bedford 3day Stage Race 2013, and rides for Epic-Scott Contessa Racing Team.
She said it was a pleasure to share her wide range of recipes with the Knutsfoodies at The Welcome on March 4.
"I was delighted to be involved with the Knutsfoodies, the scheme which has been put together to help show young children how easy it is to cook good, healthy and nutritious food at affordable prices," said Hannah.
"It's a great scheme. Competing in cycling at international level means I always need to ensure I am eating the right foods to keep me fuelled for training and racing.”
Declan O'Regan, of Cheshire East Leisure Development, visited the Knutsfoodies and said he was delighted to be involved with the healthy eating initiative.
“Being active is a great way to live well, and eating healthily is hugely important in fuelling your body for the day ahead," said Declan.
Knutsfoodies, is an innovative pilot 10-week food course for primary school children and young people, funded by an Awards for All grant from The Big Lottery Fund, and run at The Welcome.
Cheshire Fire also paid a visit to ensure the children were aware of the importance of fire safety in the kitchen.
"A key innovation is our partnership with Aldi, who are providing ingredients each week," said Marie Fox, operations manager at The Welcome.
“We were pleased Aldi's Stuart Parks was also able to attend the sessions as it is thanks to his supermarket that the children are able to take home not just a recipe but the ingredients to cook a family meal each week – and build up a good store cupboard for future meals."
