On Brexit and many other important and urgent issues of the day I regard Esther McVey as seriously misguided.
However, I must take issue with your recent correspondents who take her to task for ignoring the views of the majority of her constituents who do not want the UK to leave the EU.
Our MPs are not mandated as delegates but elected as representatives entrusted with exercising their critical judgement in executing their legislative functions.
Esther is one of a minority of MPs who secured a real majority over all other candidates in the last General Election.
Part of the problem of our politicians being ‘unrepresentative’ stem from the democratic deficit generated by the first past the post system.
