THE time approaches when elections will be held for Cheshire East councillors and already leaflets extolling the virtues of the prospective candidates are popping through the letter boxes.

So maybe now is a good time to reflect on how we feel about the state of local affairs, and whether we feel that the current incumbents should be re-elected or whether new aspirants would do a better job.

For all around us we see cuts to vital services such as social care, local transport, roads full of potholes etc, all coupled with ever increasing local taxes, and a general feeling that somehow we have lost control over the things which matter most to us.

If you also feel this way why not contact the prospective candidates and tell them how you feel, and ask for their views on the matters which currently concern you?

Then, as voting time comes around, you will have a clearer idea as to who will best serve not only your interests but also those of the whole local community.

At the same time it is well worth bearing in mind that some of the problems facing local government are as a direct result of cutbacks by national government so that, year on year, local government has to do more with less money, and local services have inevitably been badly affected.
