RESIDENTS of Knutsford have been invited to participate in a referendum on March 14.

The question will be: ‘Do you want Cheshire East Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Knutsford to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area’.

I have read most of the plan and would be in favour, but for one worrying and glaring omission.

Figure 1 in the plan shows the designated neighbourhood plan boundary surrounding the town.

What is not shown is the current designated greenbelt surrounding the town, some of which is inside the neighbourhood plan boundary.

I have spoken to the town clerk and he concedes that this was a mistake which will be put right by the issue of an errata.

However, this errata will only be issued after the referendum has taken place. I find this unacceptable.

How can we be asked to make a decision on a flawed document?

The acceptance of the document in its present state could be construed as an open invitation for ‘anything goes’ building development in the town.
