WHILST having sympathy for the legitimate concerns of residents of Knutsford town centre and sharing their worries regarding access for the emergency services during the Sunday and Christmas markets, there is an unintended beneficial consequence – a temporary relief from the toxicity of vehicle emissions.

Nationwide these are estimated to be responsible for 40,000 premature deaths.

Forcing visitors to leave their cars further away and walk to the markets also has self-evident prophylactic benefits for public health.
