WITH reference to Joe Godden’s letter regarding people sitting in stationary cars with engines running, I too have approached cars ‘idling’ around Bexton Primary School, with varying degrees of response.
Some cars are parking up to 45 minutes before the end of school and sitting with their engines running.
The headteacher recommended that I contact the local council, which I have done twice. The council officer informed me that it is an offence and liable to a fixed penalty charge. I also contacted the local police and received a response from a PCSO.
Maybe if the law was enforced then word would get round that leaving engines running is neither neighbourly nor environmentallyfriendly and bad for everyone’s health.
In a town that is positioned near motorways, airport and railway we should all be conscious of the pollution we are exposed to. Surely we all benefit from cleaner air.
