HOW refreshing it was to read Barry Tilby’s letter about the current Brexit shambles.

I too am heartily sick (not to say heart sick) of hearing the entitled argument about the so-called ‘will of the people’, espoused again by George Berry, which has been so divisive for the country.

Remain voters can ‘love their country, its culture and its identity’ without seeing any of that challenged or compromised by being part of Europe.

The British people were sold down the line by politicians who never expected the vote to go as it did, and who swiftly exited when the reality of the difficulties of leaving Europe became clear.

The arguments presented to us by the Leave campaign prior to the vote were mendacious in the extreme, and the Remain camp was culpable in failing to present arguments about what we gain from being part of the EU.

With one daughter married to a Dutch man and living in Holland and another to an Irish man living here I, and I think many others, would love to see politicians be honest and admit that it is simply too difficult to unravel our ties with Europe.

I think many would respect such honesty.
