HAVING read Ken Last’s endorsement of David Braithwaite’s letter, I felt I could not resist writing a further response.

David Braithwaite’s letter did not make my day.

I did, however, find it somewhat puzzling but assume that, for those to whom it rang a chord, it was amusing.

I’m lucky in that I do know who I am.

I am white but have no reason to believe that I am therefore a racist.

I am generally of a liberal/lefty persuasion but have a number of conservative friends who are not fascists.

Surely, many union members, these days, would consider themselves to be middle class anyway?

Religion... well I too would probably be an infidel to extremists.

I am 67 but in no way useless.

Which mainstream media?

I would certainly be questioning information and opinion in, for example, the Daily Mail.

I am proud of my country’s great inventors, scientists, educators, social reformers, artists, writers and musicians.

I am proud of my country’s acceptance of diversity and of our freedom of speech. I am also proud of being a European and sorry that I shall soon no longer be one.

I, like you, was very lucky to acquire an education free from debt.

I believe in defence if we are attacked.

Ken Last, I am horrified at the prospect of Donald Trump being the leader of the most powerful nation on earth.

He regards himself as “smart” to have evaded, if not avoided, paying much of his taxes.

Dislike of the status quo is not a reason for choosing a leader with no integrity. In what way do you imagine that he will rebalance the world order?
