RICHARD Cussons stated that it is mainly blue badge holders who park on the double yellow lines on Princess Street.
I checked this out the other day and saw no evidence of it despite seeing four vehicles parked on the double yellows.
Two were black 4x4s, one was a white BMW and one was a black branded vehicle belonging to a hairdressers and none of them were displaying any blue badges.
There were also two able bodied people who left a car parked in the bus stop bay on Canute Square just before a bus was due.
It seems the main reason people who park on double yellow lines is because they are rich and lazy – a penalty charge is probably nothing to the owner of an expensive car.
Maybe the solution is to give the police the power to give a temporary ban of 24 to 48 hours to drivers who ignore parking restrictions.
