THOUGH I was disappointed by the decision of the hierarchies of the various NFUs to support the Remain In campaign, I was not surprised.
When I served as a county councillor, I was intrigued to see an almost unwritten code that joined senior officers and many councillors in a sense that it was the institution that mattered more than the people it was there to serve.
The EU and now the NFU are behaving in the same way.
As someone who was born and brought up in Cheshire and whose late father was general manager of Unilevers animal feeds plant, I know Cheshire farmers, supported by the UK government, will enjoy a premium price for their products when free to be in charge of their own destiny.
