THE historic town of Knutsford has a focal point for those arriving from Chester, Warrington and other distant places, namely, Canute Square.

Overlooking the picturesque roundabout heading the Square, is a magnificent building, up to recent times The Conservative Club, also of historic importance to the people of Knutsford for decades.

Of special notice on the building, was the national flag, the Union Jack, raised at most times and lowered to half mast on sad occasions.

It was in this respect a symbolic, proud confirmation of national pride in Knutsford.

In recent weeks, the flag has been replaced by a commercial flag, of absolutely no importance whatsoever, other than for the business that has now occupied the building.

I wonder, will the business owners of the flag on the majestic post which it now occupies, will lower it to half mast on a future sad occasions?

Perhaps our Rt Hon Member of Parliament will have knowledge of this possibility?
