Cameron Norrie’s hopes of cracking the world’s top 40 are over for this week after he exited the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome.
The British number two, who is currently ranked 45, succumbed 6-2 6-2 to Borna Coric in less than an hour.
Norrie lost the first four games and the tone was set from there as he struggled against the superior Croatian.
Another run of four successive games for Coric in the second set was terminal.
Corrie has one more week of preparation, likely to involve playing in either Lyon or Geneva, before the French Open at the end of the month.
