DEFENDING champions Mobberley A came a cropper on the opening night of the new Knutsford and District Amateur League season.
They lost two frames on the black ball and another on the pink in a 5-2 reverse against last term’s top flight runners-up Royal London A.
Promoted Mobberley C turned out only four players but still took three points off fellow newcomers Morley.
Elsewhere Wilmslow Cons A lost at home to Tatton, while Mobberley B won a couple of frames and the overall aggregate against debutants Shaw Heath B.
Wilmslow Cons B, without a match, complete the Division One line-up for the competition’s 61st year.
Skipper Kevin Shackleton racked up the first 100-points frame of the season in Division Two, but it was not enough to help his Wilmslow C team avoid defeat at home to Mobberley D.
Shaw Heath A won six of the seven frames at Mere B while Brook Street, relegated from the top tier at the end of last term, started with a success at Knutsford Cons A.
There were victories too for Mere A and Royal London B at the expense of Knutsford Cons C and Mere C respectively.
Knutsford Cons B, third in Division One last season, have not entered this time around after failing to find a captain.
