MOBBERLEY A have been crowned champions of the Knutsford and District Amateur League for the fourth time in the past eight years, writes Tony Crompton.

They clinched top spot in Division One after a whitewash of third-placed Royal London A, leaving last season’s winners Morley A to take the runners-up prize.

They were comfortable victors at Brook Street A.

Already-doomed Mere A took three points off Team Knockout Cup winners Knutsford Cons B, while Brook Street B can only avoid joining them through the trapdoor next week if they win frames against Mobberley.

In Division Two Morley B failed to make the most of leaders Mobberley B’s week off as they picked up only four frames at Mobberley C.

Fellow promotion hopefuls Tatton made the most of their rivals’ slip-up, closing the gap to second place to two points, after beating mid-table Mere B.

Those two meet this week to decide who will join Mobberley B in the top flight next term.

Elsewhere lowly Knutsford Cons C enjoyed a fine 5-2 win over their Wilmslow counterparts, but revenge of sorts was gained when Wilmslow Cons B whitewashed Knutsford Cons A.
