BROOK Street B are set to join Mere A in the Knutsford and District Amateur League’s top tier next term, writes Tony Crompton.

Closest rivals Wilmslow Cons B dropped two vital points to stall their promotion push leaving second-placed Brook, not in action, with a hefty five-point advantage going into the final round of matches.

Division Two champions-elect Mere A, promoted a fortnight ago, endured a scare against Mobberley C before edging home by the odd frame in seven.

Elsewhere Wilmslow Cons C finished their season on a high with a 6-1 win – a score matched by Mobberley D against Mere C.

Royal London had an aggregate win in a high-scoring match against Shaw Heath, while both Tatton teams also tasted success in their tussles.

Steve Flinders and Mark Newall (Royal London) were winners in the Bert Astles Memorial Pairs, coming from behind to beat Mobberley duo Tony Crompton and Mike Roylance at Brook Street.

There was individual success for Jonathan Smith (Wilmslow Cons) in the Rotary Cup final, where he consigned Newall to his third runners-up spot of the season with a 2-0 win.
