KNUTSFORD Junior Netball Club were well represented at England Netball’s latest PGL weekend – and they came back with medals galore.

Six teams from the club were involved in the tournament at the PGL adventure camp at Boreatton Park in Shropshire, with their eldest team being crowned champions.

The Knutsford Thunder team won all eight of their matches in the under 15s division and with the team now moving up to under 17s and seniors netball, they were able to finish on a high.

“It’s fantastic that Knutsford Thunder won, but the tournament was so much more than the final,” said Anna Beaver, the Thunder team manager who runs the team alongside coaches Christina Stubbs and Matt Taylor.

“Each member of the team played their heart out every single game in intense heat and sunshine, no matter what was asked of them.

“They supported each other, stayed positive, supported other younger teams in the club and were courteous and friendly to staff and umpires.

“They are such an impressive group as young women and role models! It has been a joy – I am so proud of the Knutsford Thunder Team, they are amazing!”

The club’s Falcons team, coached by Clare Hughes and Kirsty Colclough, made it to the semi-finals and finished as runners-up in their tournament, while the Tornadoes team finished third having also made it to the last four.

Knutsford also had two teams – Cyclones Yellow and Cyclones Green coached by Kelly Newitt, Jennie Woods and Pippa Walsh – in the youngest Year Seven age group, with the yellow team reaching the final and finishing in second place.

“I’m so very proud of all the girls,” said Lauren Sweeney, who coaches the Tornadoes and Blizzard teams alongside Charlotte Gildart-Butler

“Not only did they work on developing their netball skills but they also cheered and supported the other Knutsford netball teams, experienced the PGL activities, made friendships with the other netball teams and smiled all the way along.”
