AN injury-time equaliser from Tom Bowey rescued a point for Knutsford FC at Golborne on Saturday.

After a left-wing cross from Graeme Brotherton found its way to him at the far post in the 92nd minute, Bowey bundled the ball home to ensure Nick Ward’s side went home with a share of the spoils.

It was the second time Reds had pegged their hosts back but will feel they should have won the game on the balance of play, with Golborne keeper Luke Riley making several impressive saves.

With Riley having already denied Brandon Preston a superb long-range strike following good chances for Bowey and Mikale Williams, Knutsford fell behind on 25 minutes when Rob Newcombe headed home a cross from the right.

However, they hit back just a minute later as Bowey cut inside from the right and fed Williams, who made no mistake to level the scores.

Nathan Bibby then blazed over the bar from close range before a slip at the back just before half time allowed Jordan Coates to nip in and put Golborne ahead again.

After the break, Knutsford were on the front foot looking for another equaliser and came agonisingly close to getting one when Bowey headed Sam Summerbee’s cross onto the bar before hitting the post with the rebound.

Substitute Tom Hawley then fired over from close range as time began to work against Reds, but Bowey came to the rescue to make sure they did not leave empty-handed.

Knutsford’s next game sees them welcome Newton Athletic to Manchester Road on Saturday, kick off 2pm.
