AHEAD of their huge top-of-the-table clash on Saturday, Egerton FC sent a message to Cheshire Football League Premier Division leaders FC St Helens at the weekend.

With the table-toppers not in action, the Yellows took the chance to close the gap between them to just two points by thrashing Garswood United 7-4.

The sides meet on Merseyside on Saturday and a win will take the Mereheath Lane men to the top of the table.

Louis Brown scored a hat-trick against Garswood while Harry Short and Remmi Williams were also on target, as were substitutes Isaac Graham and Harrison O’Shea.

Meanwhile, Knutsford FC slipped to another damaging defeat on Saturday as they lost 5-2 at fellow Cheshire Football League Premier Division strugglers Daten.

With their regular goalkeeper injured, centre-half Adrian Barnett was forced to don the gloves for Reds as they were beaten 5-2 by the Warrington-based side.

Nathan Steele’s men did start well, with George Riley smashing home a penalty to give them the lead after just seven minutes.

However, mistakes began to creep in and Daten, who were playing with the wind, took full advantage to lead 3-1 at the interval.

With the elements in their favour in the second half, Knutsford sought to fight back but conceded a fourth goal just three minutes after the restart followed by a fifth with 15 minutes remaining.

Reds did have the final say as Amir Marcos cut inside from the left to fire home a consolation goal with two minutes left, but it was another disappointing day.

Knutsford are back on home soil on Saturday as they welcome Greenalls PSO to Manchester Road.
